Wednesday, March 21, 2012:  Warm weather and 1.4 inches of rain on Monday evening has taken its toll on lake ice.  Very little ice remained in the area of Gilbert Lodge this day.

Recorded ice-outs were April 7, 2006, April 18, 2008, April 17, 2009, March 31, 2010, and April 20, 2011.

It is also the first official day of Spring. 

Thursday, March 22, 2012:  Early morning fog hung over Gilbert Lake, which was then ice free.
