14, 2013: Deep Diver Paula brought her
mask along with its bi-focal lenses so she could see while
snorkeling at the beach. Fortunately she had an underwater camera to photograph some of what was down there. |

Threadfin Butterfly fish and colorful plants abound in these
waters. Underwater is an entirely different world. |
|
|
Paula
even saw a 4 foot long turtle. She really likes being underwater. Paula must have been a fish or turtle in a past life. |
|
|
Mark and Paula were guests of
Jean and Dave
Schaeffer in their condo at the city of Kona on Hawaii. Dave and Mark liked the Bongo Ben's sign so they persuaded the ladies to stop at that restaurant for lunch. Good choice! All four snorkeled that morning and were using this opportunity to compare notes. |
Kona and the Island of Hawaii is a paradise with 68 to 78 degree temperatures. The sun is fairly bright so suntan lotion is necessary along with hats. Not bad considering the weather in Brainerd, Minnesota, was in the 20 below zero category. There are almost two more hours of daylight in Hawaii in mid-January than there are in Brainerd. |

Yes, the sun was bright as it reflected off the Pacific Ocean,
but the experience was worth every moment. Mark and Paula enjoyed listening to Hawaiian music. Most of the time, their radio was tuned to KKNE 940 AM where traditional music was played. It doesn't get much better than that. |
Finally, sunset was approaching and it was time to taste wine
while looking west. Kona is on the "sunset" side of the island. |
|
More to come from the Big Island. |
Quote of the day: You can't beat the sunsets at Kona. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
