The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

April 18, 2011:
Paula's father, Chester "Chet" Timman, passed away quietly and peacefully at the age of 88 with Mark and Paula at his side.  Chet is now with his wife Ione in Heaven.  Ione died on June 13, 2010.

Chet was born July 27, 1922, to Reinier B. and Mabel S. Timman in Norwalk, Ohio.  He graduated first in his class from Norwalk High School in 1940.  He spent a summer in the Civilian Conservation Corps clearing brush and fighting fires in Yellowstone National Park.  Chet enlisted in the Navy and served every day of World War II.  He was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class spending the majority of his time at Pearl Harbor repairing aircraft.  He arrived there shortly after the Japanese bombing in 1941.

After the war, Chet was riding his motorcycle to Washington State to reenlist in the Navy.  While visiting with his aunt in Emily, MN, he met Ione Scott and they were married in Brainerd on January 7, 1950.  Chet worked as a furnace and air conditioning repairman in Brainerd for many years with his business Timman Heating Service.

He was a Troop Master for Boy Scout Troop #47 and charter member of the Bee-Nay-She Bird Club.  Chet was a member of the Royal Arch Masons Chapter 42 and Ascalon Commandery.  He was a Lecture in the Masonic Lodge and received the Hiram award in 2001.  Chet was known for his great memory and thoroughly enjoyed his more than 52 years as a Mason.

Chet leaves behind a son Bruce (Karen) Timman of Plymouth, MN; daughter Paula (Mark) Persons of Brainerd; granddaughters Jessica (Jim Schwefel) Timman of McFarland, WI, Jenna Timman of Monticello, MN and Rachel Timman of Plymouth, MN.

Chet is preceded in death by his wife Ione, his parents, brothers Paul, Ralph, Vernon and Reinier Junior.  Chet will be truly missed by those who saw the twinkle in his blue eyes and enjoyed his great sense of humor.

Services were held on Friday, April 22, 2011.

Ione and Chet Timman

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave bereft
I am not there. I have not left.  By Mary Elizabeth Frye

May they rest in peace.  Mark < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
