Thursday, March
17,
2011: Leaping
leprechauns, it was St.
Patrick's Day. Mark was out to lunch at the Brainerd VFW Club with
friend Darrell Schneider, sometimes spelled O'Schneider on March 17th.
Darrell is Mayor of Crosslake, Minnesota. The lady in the middle is Dee Rager from Pequot Lakes, MN. Wearin the green, she looked very Irish. Q: What is the name of an Irish walking stick? A: Shileileigh. |
Lunch was corned beef and
cabbage. Green beer and partially green cake surrounded this fine
meal. Q: What is the name of a flowering plant associated with Irish? A: Shamrock. |
The dessertcake with mint
and chocolate frosting tasted every bit as good, if not better, than it
looked. Q: What is another name for Ireland? A: The Emerald Isla or Erin. |
Later in the day, Paula and
Mark were at the Brainerd American Legion Club for another Irish meal.
What is that funny looking hat you are wearing Mark?
Q: Who was the Saint who is associated with Ireland? A: St Patrick, who chased the snakes out of Ireland. Q: What kind of crop failed in Ireland? A: Potatoes. |
|
Quite a few Irish, or those who wished they were
Irish, showed up for dinner that night. Q: Brings bad luck if you don't kiss it? A: Blarney Stone
|
Dessert was excellent even
if it did have stars on top. Q: What American presidents were of Irish heritage? A; John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. Q: Titles of songs sung on St. Patrick's Day. A: Danny Boy and When Irish Eyes are Smiling. Only 365 more days until the next St. Patrick's Day. |
