The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

June 22, 2010: It is the official beginning of summer.  This day is the longest of the year and the night is the shortest.  The sun was up at 4:45 AM and went down at 9:12 PM.  Wow, that is 16 hours and 27 minutes of summer sun.  The plants at Gilbert Lodge loved it.

Mark and Paula were investigating the dietary food groups.  Paula thinks the three basic food groups are ice cream, chocolate, and cookies.  Mark thinks they are hamburgers, fries, and Coca-Cola.

Paula and her dad Chester were at the Triangle Drive-in Restaurant in Northeast Brainerd checking out the food groups.  They decided on ice cream sundays with peanuts and chocolate syrup.

The Triangle is named for the triangular property it is located on.  You can find it between Mill Avenue, 8th Street Northeast, and H Street.  A convenient place to stop for refreshment on a hot summer day.

Back at Gilbert Lodge, Chef Paula made Sockeye Salmon for dinner.  A real taste treat.

That night there was nearly a full moon and it shown brightly through the pine trees.

As seen from inside the library at the lodge, it streamed light in to show off its brilliance.  These "T" windows in Gilbert Lodge are reminiscent of what famed Architect Frank Lloyd Wright would design into a stately manor.
