2021: Mark and Paula rang in the new year watching Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians on Youtube on a smart TV. New Years Day Chef Paula decided to make Mama's Hoppin' John. This is a slow cooker. The longer the better. |
Ingredients include ham hocks, black eyed peas, tomatoes, onion,
celery, long-grain white rice and bay leaves. Yes, it takes all day in a crockpot. |

So, Paula headed out with snowshoes to
get exercise while seeing Gilbert Lake. |
|
She brought Mark along, but he was having a problem getting the hang of
it! |
|
Plenty of fishermen with kids on the lake. Catch anything? |
|
Hoppin John was ready at the end of the afternoon. Paula baked bread and pulled the hamhock bones out. Nice Christmas plates, Paula! |

Very good. It took just a bit of Tobasco to add spice. This
is a southern stick-to-your-ribs dish. |
|
All of this while a fire is going on in the Grand Fireplace. |
