Saturday,
September 26, 2015:
Mark and Paula headed down the
Needles Highway
again. Yes, just one car at a time going through tunnels.
Beautiful scenery....Mount Rushmore was seen off in the distance. |
The 1880 Train
was being oiled by engineers at Hill City, South Dakota, in preparation
for its trip back to Keystone, some 18 miles away. |
The brakeman and his assistant were
there to greet passengers.
Paula took this train back on
May 15, 2011.
|
More travel on the Needles Highway. Watch it, just one car at a time in tunnels. Paula found an opening in rocks to take photos through. |
Then it was off to
Wind Cave.
Lots to see as visitors descended into the depths. There are 144 miles of explored caves in this area. |
|
Down, down, down they went. The tunnels narrowed. No cell phone coverage here! |
|
The last stop was 210 feet below the surface. Plenty to see on the ceiling too. |
Yes, Crazy Horse is still under construction, as it has been since 1948. No completion date has been set. Meanwhile, the carving is viewed by one million people each year. |
That guy looks familiar. Who is he? Hmmm....what does this mean? |
Quote of the day: Stay tuned for the next exciting adventure. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
