Saturday, May 30, 2015:  Thousands show up every year for Discover Aviation Days at the Anoka/Blaine airport on the north side of the Twin Cities.

These T-6 Texans are deliberately trailing smoke.

Flying in formation is no easy trick.

It takes training and skill.

Even the US Navy was there with a 1940s vintage staff car.

A US Army jeep was close behind.

One of the highlights was seeing a North American B-25 Mitchell bomber in the air.  It dates back to 1939 and served well in World War II.

This plane was used to bomb Tokyo in 1942.

The film "Thirty Seconds over Tokyo" tells the story.

Plenty of World War II re-enactors and vehicles on hand that day.  Lots to see.

A B-25 is being escorted by another North American design, the P-51 Mustang.

This Mustang was beautifully restored.

A flight jacket above is decorated accordingly.

The crowd liked the T-6s and this one especially with Popeye the Sailor Man.
Here is another T-6.
More re-enactors with a 1940s staff car.

Another flight jacket above.

Many of the planes at these air shows are from the CAF.

They go to a lot of trouble to restore and show war planes.

This young guy might be a pilot someday.

Wings of the North is another aircraft restoration group.

The plane on the left is a Cessna T-50.

Some might recognize it as a plane used in the Sky King television series in the 1950s.

This is a Howard 500, an executive transport from the 1950s.

It harkens back to the days before jet engines.

This bi-plane attracted a lot of attention.

A big engine and nicely done.

There was a parade of antique automobiles...some had antique passengers as well.

A Ford Tri-Motor from the 1920s was there to show off.

Mark flew one a few years back in Brainerd.

Quote of the day:    This is an air show for everyone, not just pilots.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
