Mark and Paula headed to Crosslake, Minnesota, to check
out the
10th annual Winterfest celebration. Antique Snowmobile Club of America was there with plenty of "old" snowmobiles to show off. This one is a Polaris Traveler from 1963.
|
They don't go fast and they need frequent repair. Perfect for a hobbyist. |
Paula remembers when her family had this model when she was a
teenager. A 73 Scorpion Super Stinger made in Crosby, Minnesota. Maybe it is the SAME one! |
Mark liked this 64 Arctic Cat Hus Ski. It has a Kohler engine, made in Wisconsin. Mark graduated from high school in Marshfield, Wisconsin, back in 1965. |
Mark and Paula participated in Soupfest, tasting soup at many places in and around Crosslake. This one was Maucieri's Italian Bistro. Mark wore his Zenith "Long Distance" Radio shirt and liked the soup here. Paula preferred the soup at Barstock Liquors, provided by Prairie Bay. |
Even Paul Bunyan (on the left) was there with his helper serving
their version of camp soup. Now we know how lumberjacks ate years ago. Very well actually. |
Part of the event was racing snowmobiles.
Here they were using radar guns to check speed at the end of a straightaway. |
Paula is an animal person.
She enjoyed petting and talking to the horses. They are Denny and Doug. Each one weighs in at about 1600 pounds. Don't let one of the step on your foot, Paula! These horses were found at the Pine Peaks Retreat and Event Center. |
On the way home, they spotted an American Bald Eagle.
Beautiful bird. |
Quote of the day: Fun to see the outdoors even in winter. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
