21, 2013:
The
Hawaiian shoreline was showing off its waves as
they crashed in. There was a mixture of white sand and black lava rock at this site. |
|
You can still see lines in the lava from when it cooled hundreds
or thousands of years ago. It will eventually turn into black sand as ocean waves break it up. Just a matter of time. |
|
A crab was found near the shoreline. Hmmm...a little small for cooking and eating. |
Paula spotted another
Gecko.
Cute little harmless creatures.
|
Paula stopped at
Kona Blue Sky Coffee
to get a tour. The basket is used in harvesting coffee beans by hand and only when ripe for picking. Other beans are left to be gathered on a later date. Tour guide Sarah was transplanted from the Minneapolis area to Hawaii a few years ago and loves it. |
Mark and Paula sampled so much coffee that day that
they suffered "coffee withdrawal" the next day.
This is Whiskers the cat who was found at a coffee plantation. Paula couldn't resist the temptation to pick Whiskers up and get a purr. Greenwell Farms grows some coffee beans, but buys and processes even more for what they say is the "world's best coffee." Coffee can be called Kona Coffee if it has at least 10% coffee from Kona, Hawaii. You can also find 100% Kona Coffee if you look hard enough. Great stuff. |
Mark and Paula really enjoyed the sunsets in Hawaii. |
Sailing into the sunset, passengers
and crew in a sailboat watched the sun
as it settled behind a distant cloud bank that
night. |
Dinner that night was tuna on a BBQ.
Dave Schaeffer did the honors getting it done "just right" while the ladies took care of the rest. |
It doesn't get much better than this. |
