Thursday, September 6, 2012: Mark and Paula headed south on
a scenic byway in Wisconsin. Interesting sights along the way. Paula, Are you sure we are not on Easter Island? |
||
Then they came across the Door Peninsula Winery to see, tour, and taste. | ||
Interesting license plate |
||
Who could resist that? |
Mark and Paula learned how wine is made and bottled. A fun place to visit. Interesting stuff! |
|
|
Soon it was on to a marine museum in Sturgeon Bay,
Wisconsin. Paula likes fish, in this case a Sturgeon. She sees many fish while SCUBA diving, but usually not this large. |
The featured attraction at the museum is the John Purvis. It is a tug boat that dates back to the year 1919. |
|
The tug is powered by two 900 horsepower engines and
controlled from below by an engineer who gets his commands from the pilot above.
The engines were originally steam and later upgraded. The tug had a crew
of 13.
Many thousands of hours were spent restoring her for the museum, many by the tour guide Paul. |
|
Mark couldn't resist taking the wheel. He felt like a real sailor wearing his sailor shirt. |
|
Mark and Paula stayed overnight at the
Stone Harbor Resort
in Sturgeon Bay.
When in Door County, you eat fish, which is what they did. |
Quote of the day: A fun and educational door day to say the least. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
