Friday, August 24, 2012: Flowers were blooming at Gilbert Lodge. A nice sunny day, but we could use some rain. |
Paula went shopping at the Brainerd Farmer's Market. She returned with good tasting bread. Included in her bag were tomatoes, lettuce, and squash. We are likely to hear more about the squash in a few days. |
Bacon from a local butcher shop went into a frying pan and cooked until it was golden brown. |
Paula cut some of the bread and toasted it. Hmmm, what is she making? |
More evidence....the lettuce and tomato have been washed and cut then placed on a plate for serving. |

Ah...there we go. Bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches. Some people, like Mark, like toast well done. He remembers that when he was a kid that food was always well done. Why? Well, it would all start when his father came home from work and would pour a cocktail for himself and Mark's mother while dinner was cooking, but then another cocktail would be served. Dinner was well done by the time the cocktail hour was over! |
Quote of the day: Chef Paula is a great cook...serving what the customer wants even if it is well done. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
