Saturday, August 25, 2012: The annual Gull Lake Classic Boat Show was held at Bar Harbor on the north end of Gull Lake. It drizzled a bit, but that didn't keep the crowds away. |

Lots of boats from the 1960's. Del Vanenmarik of Minneapolis brought his Car Aqua with two Scott/McCullough 45 horse outboard motors. The boat was built in Minneapolis to look like a car of the era. A sporty runabout complete with aqua color. |

Mark's friends Tom and Loree Yeager of Brainerd brought one of their fully restored boats to the show. They put thousands of hours into this one and are working on another similar wood boat. In the end, it is probably better that they do this as a hobby rather than frequent bars. |

Instrument panels are half of the fun. Some of the boats were built for speed. This 12-cylinder model, the Ethyl-Ruth IV, must be a real thrill to pilot. |

The star of the snow was the Tolka. It was built at the Alexander Graham Bell laboratory in Baddeck, Canada back in 1928. A 36-foot limousine launch. Pure luxury. It is a piece of history that has been completely restored. |
The engine is a 6-cylinder model with two spark plugs per cylinder. There are two control positions used according to the weather. This is the inside one behind the engine. |
The Paulina from 1941 with a Neptune outboard motor and ores in case the motor quit running. Complete with a tackle box and pipe for smoking while waiting for the fish to bite. |
Quote of the day: Always fun to go to a boat show. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
