Saturday, December 24, 2011: Chef Paula was in the Grand Galley at Gilbert Lodge doing holiday baking. She started by making a pie crust from scratch. Paula is known to be a great cook and wonderful baker....a combination you do not always find. Gilbert Lodge is lucky to have her. |
This is going to be a pumpkin pie...Mark's favorite. |
Out of the oven, Paula checked to make sure the pie was
done by using a toothpick. On the counter is a red rose from her hubby Mark. |
Paula never stops. She cut butter into holiday
shapes.
Chef Paula spares no effort it making things right. It doesn't get any better than this. Nice touch, Paula. You put the butter on holiday plates. |
Mark and Paula went out for a walk to shed some of the many calories they accumulated by eating well for the holidays. They ran across this fun couple out for a drive in their convertible car. Imagine that, going around with the car top down in December. The weather has been a bit warmer than normal, but no one is complaining. |
When the Dynamic Duo arrived back home, they discovered that friends Mark, Hiromi, Thomas, and Taylor Ruhl had visited and left gifts at the door. They wrote their names in the snow to signal that they had been there. Hiromi is Japanese so she wrote her name in Japanese as well. |
The evening started out with pickled herring, sometimes
known as
Norwegian
Sushi.
Also served with smoked salmon. They went well with Gilbert White wine which is also available from the Gift Shop at Gilbert Lodge. |
There was a wonderful fire in the Grand Fireplace at the lodge. |
Quote of the day: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
