Sunday, November 27, 2011: The Gilbert Lodge fearless maintenance man Mark was up on the lodge 64-foot communications tower. While there, he took time to pose for this photo with his hands in the air yelling, "Look ma, no hands!" The weather was somewhat windy with temperatures below freezing. Mark did not spend any more time on the tower than he needed to. In all, he climbed twice that day because of rigging difficulties. What is he doing? If you look closely, he is installing a star that will be lighted at night. |
Looking down, he saw Paula...that speck in blue, near the center of the photo. Paula was the "ground crew" for this annual exercise. A portion of the star is seen closer to the tower. You can also see one of Mark's boots behind the star. |
A birds-eye view of Gilbert
Lodge from the tower. A portion of Gilbert Lake is seen behind the
lodge. Yes, that is steel roofing made to look like shingles. It has a 50 year warranty. The lodge snow thrower was sitting outside with a fresh can of gasoline getting ready for winter snows. |
The star looked great at twilight.
The address is 10032 Island Drive, not far off Riverside Drive on the north side of Brainerd. |
