The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Friday, November 25, 2011:   Mark and Paula got up at 5 AM and went out to see the thousands of shoppers who turned out for Black Friday.  Many stores opened at midnight.  Some waited until 6 AM.  There were long checkout lines wherever they looked.  Shoppers waited over a half hour at one store to check out.

Local police reportedly handled crowd control at Walmart, Best Buy, and Target stores.  No problem except that most of the parking lots were full to overflowing.

Christmas music was coming from everywhere.

Then it was off to WWWI Radio where front desk receptionist KadeeJo O'Day was serving fresh pastries to everyone.

How could anyone pass up such a bargain?

In the WWWI studio, morning announcer Lon Schmidt was interviewing Kevin Goedker from the Heartland Detachment of the Marine Corps League.  It was the big kick-off day for the annual Toys for Kids campaign.  The goal was to raise $10,000 to fund the annual Christmas campaign to provide toys to less advantaged kids.
Kevin was showing Lon a newly minted One-Million Dollar bill from the Marine Corps.  Lon was wondering where he could cash such a denomination.

An inscription on the front of the bill says, "U. S. Marine Corps - We are in your debt.  Thanks a Million."  On the rear it says, "Semper Fidelis," which means always faithful.

Paula took the opportunity to sit on Santa's knee (don't tell Mrs. Clause) and ask for the Christmas presents she wanted.

In the process, she pulled on Santa's beard to see if this was the real Santa.  He was!

Quote of the day:  Black Friday is a day to experience.  Mark < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
