Friday, November 11, 2011: This is Veterans Day. A time to honor and remember those who served in our military. Many died in the quest to preserve the freedom that we enjoy today. There was the story about a parade where the American Flag was going by in front of some spectators who did not honor it by standing, taking off their hats, and putting hands over their hearts. A man who did show his respect was a veteran who managed to rise with great difficulty from his wheelchair to salute the flag. Thank a veteran today. |
That day, Mark was joined for lunch by Lyle Amundson KØLFV at Applebee's Restaurant in Baxter, Minnesota. Since it was Veterans Day, their meal was provided free of charge. A wonderful way to reward veterans for their service to our country. Thanks Applebee's for a great lunch! Free car washes were available to veterans at the Pine Square and College Square convenience stores in Brainerd. Perkins Restaurant was offering a free meal to vets and Famous Dave's was giving 20% off. Thanks to them as well. Mark and Lyle were in the Signal Corps of the U. S. Army...many years ago. Mark repaired aircraft radios in Vietnam 1968-1969. Lyle spent his time in Italy at a NATO communications facility in the early 1960's. |
Quote of the day: When I served in the military, I had no idea all of this would happen today. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
