Mark
and Paula spent an overnight in Red Wing,
Minnesota. The city is on Highway 61 south of Minneapolis/St. Paul by
about an hour. It is along the mighty Mississippi River too.
They stopped at a farmer's market where gourds were everywhere to be seen. |
Paula picked up a few interesting ones to say the least. She likes the unusual and says that is why she married Mark. |
Bill Habedank, the "Pumpkin Man," was there to show everyone how to carve pumpkins for the Halloween season. Bill uses "pumpkin magic" in carving his "Bill-O"-Lanterns." |
Here is a look at the Mississippi River. It was busy in spite of somewhat high winds and only 50 degree temperatures. |
Well, the
Pearl of the Lake
was seen that day. Mystery Diners Mark and Paula recommend the sausage soup at the Brickhouse Pub and Grille for lunch and the Smokin Oak Rotisserie & Grill in Red Wing for a rib dinner. |
Mark stopped into the St. James Hotel to make a phone call. The place has been there since 1875 and Mark seized the opportunity to use one of their "new fangled" telephones. Who was he calling? The plot thickens again! |
Soon the Dynamic Duo was off to a high hill on the edge of town. It is called Barn Bluff and is 131 feet above the surrounding terrain. |
Paula was the first headed up the leaf-strewn trail on that fall day. |
The view of the Mississippi River was very good from the top. Mark found he had four bars on his cell phone. No drop-outs in that location. |
At the top there was an American Flag dedicated to U. S. Veterans of recent far-east conflicts. Nice to see that. |
Quote of the day: Red Wing, Minnesota, is an interesting place to visit. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
