Monday Afternoon, May 16, 2011: Mark and Paula headed up the Needles Highway from Custer State Park. Plenty of good scenery. |
A little white-knuckle driving with relatively narrow roadways and few guard rails. |
See, its easy....just follow that motorcycle ahead through the tunnel. |
OOPS!!!...there is a car coming through this one-lane tunnel! Quick, back up. |
The highway is named Needles because of the tall skinny outcroppings of rocks. These are over 100 feet tall. |
The "eye of the needle" is one of the more popular spots. |
Nearby, Mark and Paula saw this rock climber about 100 feet up. Hey buddy...hang on! |
Then it was back to a more tranquil scene on a lake after an exciting adventure through the hills. There was even a kayak out for the afternoon. |
Tip for the day: The Powder House Lodge Restaurant near Keystone, SD, is a great place to eat. Their specialty is grilled steaks. |
Quote of the day: The Needles Highway is a sight-seeing experience. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
