Wednesday, February 2, 2011: It was Groundhog Day. The temperature at sunrise was 14 degrees below zero. Well, the groundhog did not see his shadow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. If he had been in Brainerd, Minnesota, he would have seen his shadow as we observed on the grounds at Gilbert Lodge. So, we are in for six more weeks of winter in Minnesota! |
To make us feel better, Chef Paula decided to make turkey in the Grand Galley at the lodge. Here, she has just pulled it from the oven with an electronic thermometer still poked in a leg. |
The drippings made great gravy for the feast. Paula guards her gravy recipe. |
Then it was on to the butcher block to slice the turnkey. |
Soon it was on a plate with stuffing, cranberries, and peas. Gravy covered most of the plate with great vigor. |
Dessert was angel food cake with raspberries and whipped cream. Chef Paula really outdid herself on this one. Only 43 days until St. Patrick's Day! |
Quote of the day: Chef Paula is extrodinaire. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
