Friday, January 17, 2020:   Mark and Paula found themselves in downtown Minneapolis when it was snowing.

They enjoyed dinner at a German restaurant.  (l-r) Kari and Chip Borle, then Mark and Paula.
Chip is Commander of the Brainerd VFW.  Mark post Chaplain and Webmaster.
The ladies are members of the Brainerd VFW Auxiliary.

The event was the Minnesota VFW Mid-Winter Conference.  Lots of talks about the VFW goal of veterans helping veterans.

Poppies will be offered for donations in April and May to benefit veterans.

Good food from breakfast omelets to dinner dessert.

Gold Star Mother Jill Stephenson told the story of her son Ben Kopp, an Army Ranger who was killed in action during
Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.  Her book describes her son enlisting to fight back after 911.
He was credited with saving the lives of six of his fellow  soldiers.  As an organ doner, he benefited others.  Heart of a Ranger.

Brainerd VFW people were at the Grand Banquet.

Commander Chip Borle presented a check for $6000 from the Braienrd VFW.
Paula was there with a check for $225 from the Auxiliary.

(left photo) The state winner of the Patriot's Pen competition was Thea Bothun of Rochester, MN.
(right photo) Voice of Democracy was won by Elizabeth Link of Inver Grove Heights. MN.  Both were excellent speakers.
