Thursday, December 27, 2018:  The moon became fearful as clouds moved in.

Yes, a winter storm was coming with a promised 12 inches of snow.

WCCO TV Channel 4 in Minneapolis put Brainerd and Crow Wing County in the bulls-eye of the storm.

Thursday morning the trees were heavy with snow.  Their branches drooped to the breaking point.
Snow Thrower Operator Mark cleared three inches of heavy snow from the Lodge driveway at 9 am.

Mark and Paula headed out to do some shopping and encountered a snow pile, four or more times the height of a car,
in the parking lot at Super One Foods.

A Brainerd City truck came by Gilbert Lodge to plow and put sand down at 2:39 pm.
By then, there were about two more inches on the driveway.

Mark took three inches of snow off the driveway, just after 4 pm, before the cocktail hour.

There was a warm fire in the Grand Fireplace that night.

You probably noticed the wooden shoe next to the fireplace.  Paula's family history goes back to Holland, many years ago.
The tradition is that lumps of coal will be put in the shoes of those who are naughty.  Paula, is that your shoe?

Quote of the day:    This is winter in Minnesota.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
