Saturday, May 5, 2018:   The early morning hours before sunrise at Duluth, Minnesota.
Fishermen were headed out onto Lake Superior from a lighthouse at the Aerial Bridge.

The sun was coming up as more fishermen left the port.

Many fishermen tried their luck from the south pier at the bridge.

The James R. Baker came through hauling taconite ore in mid-day.

Vessels of all sizes go under the Aerial Bridge.  Each to his own.

More interesting transportation.  Segways are becoming a popular way to get around.

The American Spirit came in that day.  She is a 1000 footer displacing 16,000 tons plus 62,000 tons of cargo when fully loaded.
The ship
dwarfed onlookers standing at a pier under the Aerial Bridge.

More fishermen headed out that day with twin 150 horse Mercury outboard motors.
They passed by the South Pier Inn where Mark and Paula often stay when in Duluth.

Quote of the day:    Duluth is a fun place.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
