Saturday, March 3, 2018:
The Dynamic Duo of Mark and Paula headed to
Mille
Lacs Lake to see
Snowkiting.
Wind was peaking at 30 miles per hour and the temperature was above freezing. |
This was the 14th such annual event on Mille Lacs to the delight of the kite
flyers and spectators. |
An experienced kite operator can fly off the snow when conditions are right. |
This is a serious sport for some. |
They go all out for the thrill. |
It is possible to stay aloft at 30 feet for 100 feet or more of distance. |
Of course they get hungry. A wood-fired pizza oven was on hand to feed the
hungry crew. |
Then it's off again. They've been known to break arms and legs doing this. |
Finally it is time to pack up the gear. |
Imagine that, the entire kite and rope control system can be put into a single
bag. |
One last kite at sunset before they head to shore for story telling. |
Some of the kite flyers came from a distance away. For more information, visit http://fleet8.com/ |
Quote of the day: I'll stay on the ground, thank you!. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
