Wednesday, January 31, 2018:
Mark and Paula
headed north from Grand Marais, MN, along the north shore of Lake Superior. |
Wildlife, like this deer, are common in that area. |
The Dynamic Duo went on a one-mile snow covered walking trail in
Judge Magney State Park. |
The
object was to see a water fall, which was mostly frozen over because of very
cold temperatures. |
The path
was steep. Paula found going down a hill was easier on her back side.
Funny how that worked out! |
More ice
along the shore. |
There
were these frozen boat houses waiting for spring to arrive. |
Paula
and Mark stopped in at the
Grand Portage
National Monument, just six miles from the Canadian border. it is not really a monument, but instead it is a history center telling of the fur trade back in the 1800s. |
It was a
thriving business trapping and sending furs back to Europe when beaver skin hats
were all the rage. |
More ice
along Lake Superior. |
The
beauty and grandeur were outstanding at times. |
Waves
crashed across the shore with some of the water turning to ice instantly. |
Snowmobiles
headed out of Skyport
Lodge for a run that night. |
The Raven Rock Grill at Skyport featured music by local musicians. |
Friends Nancy and Harold Conrad "Connie" Bramstedt joined Mark and Paula for
dinner there. It was Connie's birthday, but he wouldn't say how many. |
Quote of the day: Lots to see and do along Lake Superior. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
