Friday, July
21, 2017:
An annual fundraiser for the the
Cancer Society was
held at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds. Money raised goes to fund cancer research. |
Celebrities and hundreds of others
showed up in 80 degree weather. |
An Honor Guard from the
Brainerd VFW,
American
Legion, and
DAV showed up to present flags while the Star Spangled Banner was
played. |
Groups, such as this one from
Brainerd Rotary,
were a part of the effort. |
Speeches were
given indoors because of threatening weather. |
(l-r) Honorary Caregiver Susan Kieffer
and Honorary Survivor Judi Laurence gave excellent talks about cancer. |
The audience was filled with cancer
survivors. Each one was given a medal for courage. |
One of them was Darrell Olson, Mayor
of Baxter. |
A high-five an then a survivor parade. |
Lots of happy people who beat cancer. |
There was a photo booth just for this
event. Smile, you're on camera, click! Wow, is that what we look like?? |
The sky darkened enough for tower
lights to come on. Then a storm dumped 7/10ths of an inch of rain in less than an hour. The event was scheduled for outdoors, but was moved indoors when the weather threatened. |
Quote of the day: People are surviving cancer in record numbers. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
