Tuesday, April 25,
2017: Great
weather, as usual in Las Vegas. Distant mountains shown golden in the sun. |
Mark enjoyed operating a 1960s vintage RCA black and white
television camera in a booth at the National Association of Broadcasters
Convention. It was brought there to advertise the Museum of Broadcast Technology in Woonsocket, RI, and the Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore TX. |
There he is, your handsome broadcast engineer Mark Persons, in
living black and white video. My how television picture quality has changed over the years! |
Then it was off on the Monorail to see the town. |
They sure have a lot of water available in a place that was
once an arid desert. |
Yes, Las Vegas is an oasis in the middle of
nowhere. |
Hmmm....what is that lion looking at? Oh, It is a sign
for Battista's, a
famous Italian restaurant. Let's go in and look around. |
One of the attractions at the restaurant is Gordy the
accordion player. A happy guy. Then there was Moosolini, a stuffed moose with a name something like Benito Mussolini, an Italian Prime Minister during WWII. Mussolini aligned his country with Nazi Germany and became so disliked that Italians shot him dead in April 1945. |
However, we live in happier times now. Gordy played his
accordion for Paula while good friend Jess Meyer looked on. Batista's serves spaghetti and Ziti (like lasagna). Nothing fancy, just great food and all the wine a diner can drink. It made for a friendly and comfortable dining atmosphere. |
Quote of the day: Batista's is a successful restaurant. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
