Friday, April 21, 2017:  The Dynamic Duo of Mark and Paula Persons went to the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport for a flight to Minneapolis, MN.
This is what Mille Lacs Lake looked like on that afternoon from the air.

Their connecting flight in Minneapolis was preparing to leave at sunset.

They were in the air looking down at Twin Cities lights as the plane was taking off.

An in-flight computer system showed progress on the flight.  They encountered an 81 mile per hour head wind with a temperature of -80F at 36,000 feet.

They finally landed in a much warmer place.

Here's the rest of the story from Mark:  Paula and I booked a round trip on Delta Air Lines from Brainerd to Las Vegas with a plane change at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport.  Tickets were expensive because the flight times were early enough to get us into Las Vegas at dinner time.  What happened was another story.  The Brainerd flight was delayed, which resulted in missing our connecting flight in Minneapolis.  We were rebooked on another flight and arrived in Las Vegas at a much later time.  It was about midnight Brainerd time, which was exactly what we didn't want to happen!  We paid good money for the convenience of better flight times, but did not get that.

Likely we will NEVER fly from Brainerd again.  The last time we tried to use the Brainerd airport, the flight was cancelled while we were standing at the gate waiting for the plane.  I was handed keys to a rental car and was told to drive myself and the other passengers to the Minneapolis airport.  Fortunately I knew which roads to take to get the job done.  So much for the convenience of flying from the local airport!

Quote of the day:    Flying isn't what it used to be.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
