Saturday, December 3, 2016:  Mark and Paula decided to see the Grand Meander on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, MN.
They found Vulcans from the St. Paul Winter Carnival escorting Santa and visitors in a fire truck.

Singers were spreading Christmas music up and down the street.

Donner and Blitzen reindeer were there from the North Pole.

Lots of shoppers on the street, many donating to Salvation Army kettles.
Thanks to the volunteers, including a dog, who were helping collect money for the worthy cause.

Then there were the roasted chestnuts.  Not bad tasting.  They are a nut with a somewhat nut/meaty taste.
You remember the song, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.
Find out the benefits of chestnuts at: https://www.jenreviews.com/chestnuts/

Lots of fun on the street.

Paula found a bakery.  She loves sweet things.

Vulcans promised to greet visitors at the St. Paul Winter Carnival
in January too.

One of Santa's helpers was playing a bagpipe at an Irish shop on Grand Avenue.

Santa and Mrs. Clause were there to greet and delight kids.

A nearby wooden statue depicts William Skally (1908 - 1989) of the St. Paul Police Department.  As a beat cop in the old Rondo neighborhood, he would sometimes purchase boots for children who did not have any.  He was a true community police officer from 1941 - 1973.  Even dogs are mild mannered in this section of town.

Quote of the day:    We had a grand time at Grand Meander.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
