Thursday,
September 22, 2016:
Mark and Paula woke up in
Ely,
Minnesota. A mining center that turned into a tourist town when the
mines closed.
The is a painting of a miner on
the side of a building in the downtown area.
That image and some ladies were looking at what the man on the ladder is doing.
Hmmmm.....what is he doing?
Rough
landscape is punctuated by rivers seeking Lake Superior.
Fishermen find it a paradise for
their sport.
Visitors enjoy the quite that the
area has to offer. They just sit and drink in the atmosphere.
Even squirrels like it.
Canoeing is very popular, away from the hustle and bustle of
big cities.
Diamonds on the water at his lake.
A peaceful setting.
A view
from the Grand
Ely Lodge.
Food at the grand Ely Lodge is excellent as is the fare
at Insula
in downtown Ely.
The Insula location is the former Vertein's Cafe, which Mark remembers
from the 1950s.
The iron ore mines are closed and the area has turned
into a recreation spot for many.
