Saturday,
February 20, 2016: Mark and Paula were out on Mille Lacs lake near Garrison, Minnesota, to see a fishing contest. Thousands showed up to try their luck and help local charities. |

The ice had cracks, which is
normal, but a bit unnerving when you can see them. Ice depth was about 20 inches. Fishermen used depth gages to find just the right spot. In this case, it was 14 feet. |

Everyone came prepared and dressed for bad weather although temperatures
were relatively warm. |

Gosh, fisherwomen as well as fishermen. It seems almost every
Minnesotan like to fish summer and winter. |

Then a plane flew over at low altitude
surveying the scene. |

Fish were caught including this nice
size Northern. They are good eating, but lots of bones if not
filleted right. |

Yes, plenty of costumes to show off
for the day. Gosh, you might think these are typical Minnesota
folks....and be right! |

The temperature warmed into the 40s
and the sun shown part of the day melting lake ice. It was a bit
slippery to walk around in places. |

Yes, ice fishing and Minnesota go together like ham and eggs. |
