Wednesday,
November 11, 2015: Veterans Day ceremonies were held at the
Brainerd High School. Volunteers were there to hand out flags while
musicians tuned up. |
|
Mike Williams, Honor Guard member from
the Brainerd
Veterans of Foreign Wars, was there chatting with a currently
enlisted soldier. |
|
Soon the
Honor Guard from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled
American Veterans presented the colors. The Pledge of Allegiance was
recited respectfully. |
|
(l-r) Guest speakers that day were World War II veterans Harold
Butterfield and Ralph Yeager. Mr. Butterfield served on submarines in the Pacific. Hazardous duty. Mr. Yeager spent his time in Europe at the Battle of the Bulge and liberating prison camps. He saw the "dark side" of war. |
Music was provided by the Brainerd High School
Orchestra and singers. Wonderfully done. |
Many veterans and wives
attended. They were glad to see how much patriotism there still is
in this country. |
|
The Honor Guard held a
ceremony at the All Veterans Memorial in Brainerd that morning. A
fitting tribute to all of those who died at war. Taps was played. It was hauntingly beautiful. One happy young man went home with an empty shell casing from a weapon that was fired. |
Quote of the day: Thank a veteran for the freedom you have. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
