The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Thursday, July 23, 2015:

Life must have been interesting in World War II.  Imagine casually leaning on a bomb of that size.

Paratroopers and others often wore knives on their legs.

Doug Ward was a turret gunner aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress in 37 missions over Germany during WWII.

A very interesting and self assured guy.  He made it through the war.  Many did not.

World War II soldiers needed to be focused on what was required to win the war.

They gave of themselves to restore peace to the world.

So, what was it like in  WWII?

Well radio was important for getting news and music.

Life was simpler then.

Typical U.S. Army dress during the war.

Insignias on their hats indicate rank.
The man on the left is a Captain, the woman is a Lieutenant.
Both are commissioned officers.
The man on the right is an ordinary soldier, but those are who got the job done.

This young lady was dressed as Rosie The Riveter, holding a wooden model of an airplane wing.   She is actually a WWII re-enactor and a crew member of a B-17.
Everyone appreciated the shark's mouth on a P-40, which is the famous nose art for the Flying Tigers in China, fighting Japanese during WWII.
Then there was the cigar-chomping U.S. Marine who drove a jeep around the Oshkosh airfield.
A fun character to say the least.  Probably a supply sergeant.

Quote of the day:    Drink responsibly.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
