Sunset came and went quickly. Then a Good Year blimp appeared
with the American flag. |
The evening air show as
spectacular. |
There was even a jet powered school bus that could
travel over 300 miles per hour down a runway. You got to wonder
who dreams up these things. |
Night formation flying is about as difficult as it gets. |
A U.S. Air Force
B-52 Stratofortress was parked on the ramp for visitors to see.
It is a huge plane with awesome capabilities to carry nuclear weapons
world wide. |
Those from the Midwest could appreciate this
Lockheed
P-38 Lightning, painted
as it was for
Richard Bong. Hailing from Poplar, Wisconsin, Bon shot down 26
enemy aircraft in WWII. The government did not want him to be
killed by enemy action. Instead, he was brought back to the United
States where he was a test pilot. Unfortunately he crashed and
died in 1945. Marge was his wife. The
Richard Bong
Veterans Historical Center in Superior, Wisconsin, honors his life
today. |
Lots of pleasure craft on display at AirVenture too. |
