Monday, July 13, 2015:
The Crow Wing Power Cooperative website showed wide-spread power outages. They estimated 8500 customers without power even twelve hours after the storm. That didn't include the city of Brainerd, which had more. Plenty for individuals to cleanup as well. |
Roofs were torn off and countless trees were down. |
Plenty of big trees were tipped over by high winds....some on
top of cars. |
The old drive-in theatre on Highway 371 north suffered too.
Its screen sustained major damage. Power poles were snapped like toothpicks. |
Plenty of trees down over power lines and roads.
Traffic was snarled or halted in may places. |
Healthy trees, larger than this, were
downed. Many dead trees
stayed up because there were no leaves to catch the wind. Many power meters were idle for the duration. It may take a week to restore facilities in some locations. |
Crews from other areas were brought in to help. They
worked tirelessly day and night to replace broken poles and lines. A small thunderstorm rolled through on Monday, but nothing like Sunday night. |
Quote of the day: It is a busy place with all the repair work. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
