Sunday
July 12, 2015, 7:15 PM:
The wind blew and it was clear to see by radar that a storm front was moving through. Power went out at 7:25 PM in most of Brainerd for over five hours. Much of Crow Wing and Cass Counties were without power as well as the storm pushed trees and power lines over. Repair crews were called in from outside the area to help in the effort to restore service. The National Weather Service reported the damage was a result of a "downburst," sometimes call "straight line winds." Measured winds were 65 mile per hour with gusts as high at 80. Temperature before the weather moved in was 81 degrees. It fell some 17 degrees to 64 in less than an hour.

Storm clouds cleared the area at about sunset. The
dock at Gilbert Lodge was in disarray, but was put back together the next day. |
Sunset that night was followed by a rainbow. Very
fitting once the weather cleared. |
Quote of the day: Storms are a part of summer around here! Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
