Wednesday,
April 1, 2015:
The world will move over to Metric Time starting on this date one year from now. It was decided at the United Nations this week to bring everyone in the world to the same time standard. U.N. Chairman, Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark, said, "It is high-time to get with it!" How does this work? There will be 100 seconds in a minute, 100 minutes in an hour, and only 20 hours in one day. There will be no AM or PM. Noon will now be 10. Midnight will be 20. "It's about time," said U.S. President Obama as he
signed the time bill into law in the United States. Everyone will all need to buy new clocks,
wristwatches, microwave ovens, and alarm clocks. "This will be a
real boost for manufacturers, retailers, and the economy. You'll
even buy new cars because existing car clocks cannot be converted to metric,"
the president said. |
A reporter from the Gilbert Lodge Blog obtained a
pre-production version of the new clock. It is shown here with a metric ruler indicating the new clock is only 9.2 millimeters long. Larger versions are planned for elderly and otherwise sight-impaired people. The 14:19 time is what you would associate today with late afternoon. 15:00 is the new 6 PM. |

Out with the old and in with the new! Gone are the days of old clocks. Soon, traditional 12-hourt time pieces will appear in museums as "relics of the past." |
April 1, 2015 email: Mark, I must say that is startling news! But thank goodness we have a techy like you around to keep us informed on the latest important changes in the world. Kurt Hanson in Brainerd, Minnesota. |
