January 22, 2015:
Mark and his friend Jim Barry toured the Kennedy space Center. Plenty to see there. |
These are rockets left over from the space program
dating back to the early 1960s. Nice for the public to see them on display. |
|
Jim was checking a rocket engines from the
Apollo
program that took men to the moon. It generated 7.5 million pounds of thrust to propel space vehicles. Talk about heavy lifting! |
Mark enjoyed seeing real
space hardware. He grew up watching the space program unfold. |
The original control room at the Kennedy Space Center.
This one sent men to the moon. |
Mark and about fifty other people had lunch with
retired astronaut
Al Worden. Mark congratulated Warden and remembered him as
the Command Module Pilot on the
Apollo 15 moon shot in July 1971. Worden remained onboard the orbiter while astronauts David Scott and James Irwin descended to the moon. From that, Worden claimed he had more flying hours in space than the other two astronauts. Mark and Worden both have grey hair after all these years! |
Quote of the day: Another great day in Florida. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
