Saturday,
January 17, 2015:
The Mark and Paula headed to the
downtown area of Key West, Florida. It is at the water's edge. If you look carefully, you can see a parasailing kite in the background. |
This is the tourist attraction, the southernmost point in the
continental U.S. of A. You can almost see Cuba from there. Roosters seem to be everywhere. Morning brings cock-a-doodle-doo! No one can sleep late! |
Key Lime Pie and cigars are the big trade items in this
city....along with tourism, of course. |
Every local establishment
has a a way of drawing tourists and their money in. |
Tourists love the sailor
atmosphere. Pirates are popular here too. Interestingly, there were two power outages that day affecting all of Key West. The first was a half hour, then after 15 minutes of power, it went out again for another 45 minutes. Outages occur monthly in that part of the world, but no one seems concerned because the weather is so mild that it hardly makes an impact on the residents or tourists there. |
Then it was off to the
Stone Crab Restaurant
for dinner.
One of their specialties is the Gulf Coast Combination with shrimp, scallops and crab. Mark thought it to be an excellent choice. He wore his sailor shirt and is a sucker for seafood. |
Paula is big with animals. She and this parrot got along famously. Watch it, Paula, the sign says the bird will bite! |
The hotel they stayed in has a pool that is nicely
lit at night |
Quote of the day: This is a huge change from winter in Minnesota. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
