Wednesday,
January 14, 2015:
Mark and Paula ventured to
Little Havana, a part of Miami, Florida.
It is a community of Cuban immigrants that retains its heritage. |
They weren't there long before
Paula made friends with two Spaniards. Hmmm.... |
There were open-air food markets along with signs in the sidewalks like this one honoring Gloria Estefan, a Cuban with the the Miami Sound Machine. | |
Cuban cigars are well known in Little Havana.
Several places make them and they are a hot item. |
El Pub
is an eating spot with a lot of Cuban heritage. Mark and Paula
stopped there for a bite of lunch. |
The first thing Mark and Paula had to do was
figure out which restroom was which! "Paula, am I a Caballeros for a Damas? I don't know Spanish very well," said Mark. |
Lots of Cuban in this place
including Cuban Sandwiches and
Cuban Chicken Soup. Both are
excellent. |
Then it was off to where dominos were played
in a city park. This is serious for a lot of older men.
Little Havana is known for domino playing. |
Then it was off the the
Azucar Cuban
Ice Cream place.
They KNOW how to make great ice cream. |
Even the police are friendly. They patrol the streets on horse. Nicely done. |
Yes, Little Havana is a friendly cigar-smoking Cuban community. |
Quote of the day: A fun experience to see this part of Miami. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
