Veterans' Day
Yes, there were flags everywhere in honor of military veterans. |
Flags were handed out compliments of
Mills Fleet Farm. Mills is a huge supporter of patriotism in the area. |
Many hundreds of enthusiastic people showed up at the Brainerd
High School for ceremonies that day. Less than half are shown in the above photo. |
A color guard posted the flags. Included were members of American Legion Post 255, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1647, and Crow Wing County Chapter 22 of the Disabled American Veterans. |
The main speaker was retired Major
Doug Bekke. He told of the many sacrifices of those who served our country and how citizens should honor those who put their lives on the line for us. |
The Brainerd A Cappella Choir, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind
Symphony combined for a stunning rendition of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
They received two standing ovations. |
Veterans posed after the ceremonies. Thanks
guys! |
Some veterans brought their proud
wives. Many flags were kept as a reminder of the day. Restaurants providing free meals to vets
that day included: |
Quote of the day: It was heartwarming to see this huge turnout. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
