The life and times of Mark and Paula Persons

Thursday, July 4, 2013:

It is a tradition...Mark and Paula go to Round Lake, near Garrison, Minnesota, for a 4th of July celebration.

This year, the humans had to detour around a picnic table because a mother robin built a nest under the table.
Newly hatched robins were looking for food while father robin was outside watching after the flock.

Meanwhile inside, Paul's uncle Jack and aunt Candy hosted about 28 family and friends at their annual Independence Day party this year.

Jack served spiral-cut ham that was terrific.

But wait, there's more.

The rest was pot-luck......a real feast for the 27 people there.

You don't go away hungry from this dinner.

Then it was time for the annual boat parade.

It is a wonderful 4th of July event.

Many interesting entries.

Even one celebrating native-Americans holding the flag high.

Every boat was different.

This one had a sign that said, "The USA is awesome."

Paula drank a cool A&W root beer before heading out to play volleyball.

She does everything.

Then there was the annual egg toss, instigated by Paula.

Noah Calvo broke an arm, but he should be well for the fall sports school season.

He felt better with some dessert from Chef Paula.

Jonah Calvo is an accomplished violin player.

He is very good and has played for this event before.

How could you have a party without roasting marshmallows?

Watch it!....they brought out the water balloons.

More fun and games.

Quote of the day:  Happy 237th Birthday America.   Mark    < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
