11, 2013: Mark and Paula spent the afternoon and evening at
the Polynesian Cultural Center on the north end of Oahu. |
|
Wondrous scenery there. Who are those guys anyway? |
|
The many cultures of Polynesia were showing their stuff that day. | |
Polynesia is actually Samoa, Aotearoa, Fiji,
Hawaii, Tahiti, and Tonga.
All south seas island groups. It reminded Mark of the musical South Pacific. |
|
Great action aboard the canoes. |
Yes, they were really into it during the show and maybe afterward. |
This canoe one was for Hawaii.
Very well done....best of the bunch. |
It is the happy hand that almost everyone uses in Hawaii.
|
Paula was very pleased that she was able to make a fish from palm
leaves. She plans on trying that at home in Brainerd with leaves that she might find in the summer. |
Mark did not do as well with his fish probably because he was
preoccupied with one of the local girls. She is using the happy hand (hang loose) gesture. A friendly thing to do.
|
Ever climb a coconut tree? This guy
did with ease. |
It was a full day of learning the cultures and watching native dancing. |
More to come on the Hawaii trip. |
Quote of the day: They have more energy for dancing than I do! Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
