Sunday, November 11, 2012: Veterans Day.
Paula and Mark dined with Dave and Jean Schaeffer at the recently opened Olive Garden in Baxter, MN. The meal was free to Mark and Dave because it was the restaurant's way of saying Thank You to military veterans. Applebees restaurant was doing the same as were others in the area. |
Dave was a B-52 Stratofortress Pilot in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960's. The plane you see him with in this photo is not a B-52. He flew many military aircraft along the way and then went on to be a commercial airline pilot before mandatory retirement at age 60. |
Mark served in the U.S. Army and was
stationed in Vietnam from April 1968 to April 1969. He was young and handsome back then at age 21 to 22. Mark spent most of his time repairing radios used aboard OV-1 Mohawk aircraft. The motto was, "keep 'em flying." He is seen on this photo to the left on the day he was discharged from the service and on his way back to Minnesota in a commercial airplane. |
