Saturday, November 3, 2012:
Mark and Paula were out again for another three hours splitting firewood for the Grand Fireplace at Gilbert Lodge. Some of it was fairly large and took as many as 20 splits to get it down to size. Temperatures warmed up from 34 to 40 degrees as the day went on. |
Paula then took scrap wood away to be burned outdoors. Note the five rows of stacked firewood from wood two splitting sessions. In total, there were seven hours of work for each of them to get the firewood split and ready for winter. The wood piles are about 3-1/2 feet high and total over 60 feet in length. Fortunately then ended the work session with all fingers, toes and other body parts still attached. |
Neighbor Ross Bengston came over with sons sons Oliver and Ewan to see and help Paula burn scrap wood in the fire ring. |
