Monday, September 24, 2012: The story actually began on
September 13th when nine pallet loads of concrete pavers were offloaded
to just off the street at Gilbert Lodge.
The smallest was ten pounds and there were well over a thousand of them. |
|
Friend Dave Johnson has done this kind of work before so he was given
the job of "project leader" while Mark and Paula were the "grunt labor."
It started with breaking up the original concrete sidewalk with a jack hammer. All 7 tons of it. Dave did his share of lifting too while Mark took photos. |
|
Dave used a skid-loader to move the broken concrete to a roll-off.
Paula couldn't resist the temptation to drive the loader. She is game for anything! |
|
Then a laser level was used
to accurately mark the terrain followed by applying slopes for water
runoff.
Class-5 gravel was put down and then was leveled with a compactor. |
|
Paula and Dave put fine sand on top of the class-5 while Mark helped bring the 9.35 tons of paver stones down the driveway to the lodge.
Pavers went in, but the ones
along the edge needed to be cut.
Dave carefully checked the slopes as the project proceeded. All three used a diamond-tipped ceramic saw to get the job done. |
|
More stand was added and more compacting was done to seat the pavers properly.
Picture perfect.
It was five thumbs up, out of five, for a project well done. Oh, our aching mussels! |
It took the three of them most of a week
to do this. The entrance came out beautifully. Mark and Paula were extremely pleased at the result. |
Quote of the day: A well done project with a just reward. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
