Thursday,
June 21, 2012: (Longest day and shortest night of the year) Paula and Mark
were off to tour the
Wisconsin
Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The USS Cobia (ko'-bee-ah) is tied up there. |
Submarines were built there during World War II. On display for everyone to see is one of the same class of submarines that were built during that period. |
The radio room and instruments aboard were genuine from 70 years ago. With a compliment of 86 men, subs like this would stay at sea for 1 to 2 months. Cramped quarters. |
|
This wouldn't be a WWII vessel without pinups, especially the one on the right that is of Betty Grable. |
While in Manitowoc, Mark and Paula saw the Badger come into port. She is a ferry taking people and automobiles across Lake Michigan to Ludington, Michigan. The trip takes 4 hours and crosses between the eastern and central time zones. |
Then it was off to Wausau, Wisconsin, to visit with Jim
and Mary Zastrow. Jim is a retired radio broadcast engineer.
They dined at the Chang Garden Chinese restaurant. It is a highly rated place. Great food. Open 7 day a week. |
Quote of the day: A fun time was had by all. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
