Wednesday, February 29, 2010 News Flash:  The first BIG snow of the winter came overnight.  Twelve to nineteen inches of snowfall were predicted, but only eight inches fell at Gilbert Lodge.  It was, however, a nice coating on the trees.

Area schools were closed for the day.  Snowplows and were out.  It must be because this was a "leap day in a leap year."

A closer look in the morning showed the beauty.

Brainerd made national news when a reporter from CBS television was on hand to give live reports on how it was going.  Yes, that's right, they had "boots in the snow!"   

By afternoon, some of the snow had melted showing the green Norway pine tree needles.
At night, there was enough snow to cover up yard lights that made every attempt to light the grounds through the snow.
