Deep Diver Paula

E-mail from Deep Diver Paula:  Hi:  Last night we ate at a nice restaurant over the water.  Hoefts, Margaret, Greg, Leslie and I.  Bill, Jerry and Todd joined us shortly after we ordered.  I had an excellent chicken cordon blu and couple at the next table who own a home down here said it is safe to eat the salad.  We had a very good salad but interestingly it did not have salad dressing.  Crashed in the room before 9:00 PM.

Ate breakfast at the dive shop.  A local woman came in and prepared breakfast tortilla.  Avocado, egg, beans, salsa.  Was a good way to start the day.  They eat a large amount of beans and rice on the island.

First site today was Hole in the Wall.  Great dive where we were ran across a turtle on the bottom that had an attached remora fish on its back.  Just as we entered the first dive we came across a trumpet fish.  Ran across a very nice moray eel but not the size of the one yesterday.  Starting to see a few lion fish now on each dive.  Notice at one restaurant they are selling lion fish.

On second dive was to dive masters choice at Dixie and saw my spotted moray peeking out from its den.  Got a nice photo of a lobster.  Came across a much smaller turtle this dive but it came right to us.  Tom next to me was actually able to touch the turtle.  Saw another trumpet fish and then found two drum fish but they move way too fast for this slow photographer.  Saw a lot of groupers while we are here.  Had grouper for dinner the first night.  Also saw a scrawled filefish which was a beautiful blue.

Third dive was to Blue Channel after a great lunch prepared by a local woman.  Christian the dive master pointed out an ornate elysia to us.  Sort of a sea slug.  Then I was able to get a nice photo of a blue striped lizardfish.  Much more structure to look at today.  First dive of the day we went through some nice channels and got down to over 100 ft.  Beautiful weather with not a cloud in the sky.  The dives are quite close to shore with a ten to 15 minute boat ride.  Not as rustic as I anticipated with lots of eating establishments.  Plan to go for chicken tonight at a place we’ve heard people talk about.  So far the food we have had is excellent.

Sleeping well at night.  Don’t really need air so cool off the room for an hour, open the windows and go to bed.  Breeze is great.  Sun was up at 6:00 AM so that wakes us in the mornings.  Breakfast is in town, about a ten minute walk at 7:30 AM with the boat leaving at 8:30.

Love you.  Paula

So that is what a sand diver looks like!

A turtle with a remora on its back showed up to greet visitors.

Quote of the day:  Paula can really appreciate this warm-weather diving.  Mark    Just 20 days until St. Patrick's Day. < Back to previous story Ahead to next story >
