Saturday, February 25, 2012: Deep Diver Paula was out in the waters of Roatan SCUBA diving. Along the way, she saw many fish including this Blue Fish. Unfortunately it is not allowed for divers to catch fish. |
E-mail from Paula: First dive of the day was to Deep Seaquest. Saw a couple nice sized lobster, lots of purple/lavender sponges. Beautiful Indigo hamlets which are a beautiful blue color, fish I have not noticed before. Second dive was to Green Outhouse. Very nice wall and the dive master pointed out a turtle above us and later a huge moray eel. Must have been four feet long hiding under a ledge. Todd Mathies pointed out a very large puffer fish midway through the dive. Of the day, this was my favorite site. Lunch was made by a local woman who came to the Native Sons Dive Shop. Beans, rice, plantain and a very good pork chop. Fortified us well. Last dive was to Bikini Bottom. Saw some larger grouper fish, I believe one was a goliath. Toward the end of the dive saw two peacock flounders hiding in the sand bottom. Nearly impossible to see unless they are moving or you spot their eyes. This site had a nice pinnacle sponge. Tall sponge. On this dive the sea bottom reminded me of the desert in an odd way. Lots of brain coral and it was almost like looking at cactus. So far the fish are faster than I am so many pictures are blury. Heard you will be getting a foot of snow this weekend. I am jealous. (Editor's note: Mark and Paula are hoping to get snowed in someday.) Heading out to a seafood place which is over the water for our evening meal. xxx ooo Paula (Eel on the left hiding between rocks) |
Lots of plant life along the bottom including these pillar sponges. |
A grouper was watching the divers from a safe spot. |
Quote of the day: It appears Paula is having the time of her life. Mark Just 21 days until St. Patrick's Day. | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
